My dragon was a skeletal one (so technically invisible, minus the bones?), and Guy has really helped me get a better understanding of the finer points that are very often overlooked. He's one of the first channels I suggest to people who want to be DM, when even players can benefit from some of his videos!

I'm watching this because I accidentally became a 2 character player... Let me explain: We captured some goblins and took their caravan. We agreed that since these goblins didn't actually do anything bad, we'll let them go once we get to our destination. During an encounter with yetis, my character deduced that they are weak to fire, so one player decided to... sigh... light our captive goblins on fire and throw them at the yetis... I got really annoyed at this because there were literally multiple other choices he could've made, but he decided to murder our captives for no reason. So... kind of like in protest I(Cleric) decided I'll use my spell slots to protect the goblins instead of our party. 1 Goblin survived. He had no where to go, we had the caravan so he would've died if he left. So I decided to make him my acolyte. My character would chat to him (the goblin was always quiet), talk about philosophy, morality, and teach him stuff. In one fight we encountered flying monsters that wanted a humanoid heart... so they did a flyby and just straight up killed the goblin. Ripped his arm clean off and opened his chest cavity. I was no ready to lose this silly character! So the DM agreed that I can spend all my spell slots to "enhance" my spare the dying cantrip to stabilise the dead goblin. At that point... an idea had occurred. What if... my Cleric, all this time, was looking for "the chosen one", and this goblin his Him. So after that session I went back to write an ancient prophecy that vaguely matches what happened to this goblin. At this point the DM started describing the goblin mimicking my character when I would pray and other stuff. And the Cleric would go around yapping about how this Goblin is the chosen one. So in one encounter I decided to blurt out "Heal him!" I just wanted to see how far the DM was going to go with this silly charade I'd been doing... the Goblin kneeled besides the injured member, held them... and HEALED! After that session I decided I'll make an official character sheet for the character to give to my DM so that we don't have to look up stats and spells all the time... And it's a godsend that I did. Next session rolls around. We encounter a DEADLY encounter. My Cleric is a pacifist, and another member had just been struck with insanity and no longer wanted to help the party. So a normal encountered turned ugly. Our tank and damage dealer was down, our dps not only got downed, but decided, as a last ditch effort, kill himself to kill one of the bad guys (player had gotten tired of this character). So we're down to the Pacifist whose ideals I will NOT break even if it means my death. And our mad dude who will probably just run away on his own... So... I looked my DM in the eyes and said "Can I play the Goblin for a bit?". I had told him about the character sheet earlier that week. So as our absolute last ditch effort: The goblin awakens his latent powers and saves our entire party (we fled). Ok, nothing really came out of this except for my Cleric having been reinforced about this Goblin really being "The One". He continued being basically my shadow. Until we encounter another group of these bastards. We got ambushed in our sleep so the new character was insta downed (I'm laughing as I'm writing this). He was standing guard but rolled horrendously on perception. So they snuck up on him (in retrospect he had forgotten to roll his hp to the right level). ptsd flashing in my eyes, I asked the DM "Can we just do the same strat as last time?" He agreed and the Goblin saved us AGAIN. If I hadn't saved this Goblin and taken him under my wing in the second session, we would've party wiped TWICE now! After this encounter the DM started asking what the Goblins initiative was any time we entered a combat encounter. So I started to roll for him, and the DM expected me to control him in combat. Side note, we encountered a frost troll and the Goblin was the only one who could actually kill it... so he keeps fulfilling the prophecy. He killed the unkillable. He will bring green paradise to the snowy wastelands! Anyway, I keep controlling him in combat, then forget that he even exists when roleplaying. So I decided this stops NOW! I'm writing him a backstory, a personality, and figuring out how to roleplay a second character correctly... I accidentally became a dual character player.

Culture is something I usually don't intentionally think about. Some culture stuff comes into the story based upon the types of government, religion, the strength of various factions, and the conflicts that will be plot hooks for players to embrace or ignore. I'll be trying to think more about culture as part of each region and nation.

I like to allow players to create lessor powers in the pantheon. I generally prefer smaller numbers of named deities. Even moreso in a homebrew world where players are already trying to learn vast quantities of lore.

The players sold the Chalice of Hope to a human arts collector. Immediately after that, they heard bangings, as if someone was crushing metal with a hammer, but they chose to ignore. Some days later, this noble contacted them and asked if they could find other human-elven artifacts, and also historic human and elven relics, which the players adored for it seemed easy and lore rich money. Fast forward and in the eve of a human-elven war they discover the arts collector was, in fact, destroying elven and human elven artifacts, while privileging human ones, financing extremist militias and fostering hatred of the elves.

Agreed completely. Tons of content, much of it similar but also different in many ways, just as different people write, direct, act and fund each episode/movie/story-arc etc. There's more than enough great idea-food and learning-aides if one watched just; TOS, TNG, Ds9, Voyager, and some of the movies. I could go on at some length, having re-watched most of ST at this point, quite a few times (along with Babylon 5... that's actually similar with some respects to ds9... some episodic installments and a good bit of overarching story that a more-stationary, more-people/character-oriented environ, like a station, can provide. BEWARE the near-endless ranting of a fast keyboarder when given one of their favorite subjects to write/comment about! ahahah From here on i'll probably rant, ramble and quit half way before i feel it's been properly finished... but if you want an experienced opinion from someone who's watched & re-watched the shows & movies since being a small child, and for the 35-40 years after... If you are someone with the patience to be dragged along with my [potentially crazy] writing style, then read on, and feel free to agree and/or disagree with anything i've even touched upon; i'm happy to share what enlightenment that can be gained surrounding these subjects. Anyway, you've been warned. :) +The Original Series (Live+Animated+Phase 2; i actually found the quality consistently higher in TOS animated & Phase 2, but se la vi) +TNG is a bit ... here & there? Inconsistent if compared to other better episodes? it's fascinating stuff till you've watched all other ST and are coming back around to re-watch TNG. Ds9, Voyager + a few other bits may just spoil you as it did me... at least for my re-watch-enjoyment of TNG, generally speaking. Don't get me wrong, TNG was great, even the recycled ideas felt fresh enough and you never knew what was coming next new ep. All i'm sayin, is that when i look for my stats on which ep's i re-watch the most... only a few are TNG, and they had 7 full, great seasons too! their competition is themselves though; other ST shows, don't exactly make it a fair comparison. hehe :) +Deep Space Nine is just fantastic. It's got a random episodic episode here an there but i don't think any other ST series can say it had such a high number & high quality of story arcs going for a fantastic show up till the last episode in season 7. SPOLER ALERT: Season 6 of DS9 may be ranked the best overall season of any Star Trek show ever, and looking over what eps are in there, i think that i agree. +Voyager got off little rocky but grew into a fun show that gave us all more good ST content in a new setting with new faces... just be sure you learn to skip that insane 2m+ intro ... though if you watch ds9 first you may already know all about that (it's probably the longest at around 3 min!~ haha) P.S. i may come back and edit in some more later when i get a chance. I should like to comment on [almost] everything else (including fan-films ST and SW have a few good Fan works) JJ-Trek, ENT, SNW, Lower Decks, s3 of Picard and also say a little of whatever i have NOT mentioned yet.

I've always had very fond memories of the old boxed sets. Only recently have I realized how much I miss having a stronghold be central to the game. Even though I have often commented about the boxed sets having the best kingdom building system I didn't realize how much has been missing from my games until one of my characters became a property owner along with the rest of the party. It's so much fun to have property that we can use to make money and need to defend. The stories practically write themselves.

i had an Idea but still have no idea how to make it work it was to have one character that had twohalves/characters one would be a human child who had no voice but could use word of radience for back story purposes she would be very naive and trusting allways seeing the best in people while the other half of the character would be a warforged who would have the opposite type of stat build and would protect the girl. the warforged would always be skeptical of others but would become trusting if the girls trust in them proved to be genuine If anyone has any ideas on how to make a concept like this work please let me know

I think it's fine if you have to learn magic and if there was a first individual to discover it. Even fundamental forces have to be studied to be accessed, like electricity, magnetism, solar power etc.

I have always been of the opinion that magic should always come with a cost the average man would not want to pay, such as giving up their life or even years of life. Material components for low level things is fine. With how reality altering magic can be, it should have an equivalent cost to effect. Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favorite magic systems for that very reason; anyone can learn and access it with years of intensive study, but there is always a cost associated and the more powerful, the higher the cost. If it is something everyone can attain, the world has to reflect that in a meaningful way such as how travel works, crime, occupations, and everyday mundane things. Magic is a good place to begin for world building, it influences everything that is being put into the world. How does society live with this power? How does it affect social class? How does it shape geopolitical relations? How does it work in the wild? What are the laws around it?

First and most important: Thanks you! I love world building! Can't wait for next episode. Now few things I noticed and only thing I can criticize :-D 1) When you talk about inconsistency and "things suddenly changing" and you have new fancy background... I just expected something to happen, I had to watch it twice to be sure :D 2) Is the background distracting or I am just too tired? Probably the latter 3) speaking about background, hehm: a) The lowest flask is levitating above stairs? b) The carpet is running under the stairs? c) The tree roots - either they are growing ON the stairs, in that case that is not how roots look like. Or the roots are through the stairs (stairs build around) and this is not what you would do. This tight fit would probably soon break your stairs because of new growth, imho. The last point is crazy, huh? Well never mind. Thanks for another great episode :) Oh yeah and one last thing (another good one :D) - Is it just me or you should add more to your costume below belt? Upper part of the body is so rich and colorful and bottom is boring and it feels imbalanced. Maybe at least a pouch and dagger? Good night from the crazy person :)

Minor note. A module needs a BBEG. A campaign setting needs conflicting villains and factions. Nemesis list: Robyn the Lich Zorr'in the ally who has the phylactery. Various undead lieutenants Leadership of freed slaves who support the Robyn and Zorr'in because they're freeing the slaves. Five monatchs ruling the slavery based nations the lich seeks to rule. Abyssal Lord Zorr'in wants to kill and steal it's power. Variety of factions within each nation including tebels seeking to free slaves. Allow PC to create factions in backstory or during the adventure. Lich has legendary magic item that allows animation of vast numbers of undead. Zorr'in and Robyn are usually encountered as depleted Simulacrum depending upon magic items, scrolls and potions for combat. Less likely to instantly kill PCs during lower level encounters. All the villians will try to recruit heroes by portraying themselves as the only thing preventing a worse evil from occuring.
